It is with a heavy heart that we share the sad news that Bert Pogrebin, an Appleseed Founder and lifelong champion for justice, passed away Monday morning, surrounded by loved ones singing Bert’s favorite songs.
Anyone who had the honor of meeting Bert immediately saw his deep passion for justice and his love for those in need. Thanks to Bert, the world is a kinder place – a legacy we are proud to carry on through the work he launched at Appleseed.
Last spring, Bert’s daughter and son-in-law, Abigail Pogrebin and David Shapiro, created the Bert Pogrebin Appleseed Fund for Justice in recognition of Bert’s central role in the creation and development of the Appleseed Network.
At the launch of the fund, we had the opportunity to talk with Bert’s family, friends, and colleagues about his remarkable impact for our communities.
With equal mixtures of both great sadness and an infinitely deep gratitude for your work to make this world a better place for us all, thank you, Bert Pogrebin.
