The insightful webinar featured UT Dallas Professor Dr. Jennifer Jellison Holme, co-author of “Striving in Common,” along with the youth-led advocacy organization IntegrateNYC, discussing the history of school segregation, frameworks for equity and integration, and the importance of student voices in the integration movement.

L’Heureux Lewis-McCoy, an Associate Professor at New York University specializing in the Sociology of Education, discussed the intricate connections between housing policies and school segregation, highlighting how land use decisions impact educational equity and exploring strategies for fostering more integrated communities.
This community conversations toolkit around school integration in the United States strives to transform educational environments to be more inclusive and equitable. Rooted in comprehensive research and community collaboration led by New York Appleseed and Texas Appleseed, this toolkit is designed to help Appleseed centers around the country drive the conversation around inclusive & integrated schools and to highlight the profound benefits of diverse educational settings.
The engaging webinar, part of the Appleseed Network’s Virtual Roundtable Series, featured distinguished speakers Leah Rothstein and Richard Rothstein, who discussed their latest book “Just Action,” offering insights into new methods upholding segregation and actionable steps for fostering equality and addressing government-imposed segregation in our communities.
